In the heart of NY Finger Lakes wine country…

At this 8.25 acre site with Seneca Lake views is a multi-year experiment interplanting various perennial edibles within a treescape which includes abundant black walnut.  Flowering trees with varying bloom times have been made a planting priority to support wild pollinators and efforts are being made to support native flowering understory plants. Here is one of the four hazelnuts that grew in 2019; we were expecting our first hazelnuts in 2020 and so we have high hopes for this fall.

In Yates County, NY, Tyler Seneca and Cattle, LLC is doing business as Black Squirrel Farms.  In 2019, we ran a black walnut collection and processing program which included the black walnuts that grow on our land as well as those from other growers in the Penn Yan / Geneva area. Through this program, we collected three tons of raw black walnuts. We are planning to run the program again in 2020. Interested black walnut growers can find out more here.
